Chapter 85
Procrastination
We systematically delay unpleasant tasks — even when the delay makes the eventual situation worse, creating exactly the outcome we were trying to avoid.
Examples
- Dentist avoidance: the longer you delay, the worse the tooth problem becomes — the fear of the dentist produces a worse reason to fear the dentist.
- Preparing taxes at the last minute creates the rushed, stressful experience that a calm early filing would have entirely avoided.
- A difficult conversation avoided for weeks becomes a crisis conversation — what could have been a brief, early discussion becomes a relationship-damaging confrontation.
